What’s new? Perfume Oils!

plumeria perfume

Hey guys! New scents are in the shop! They are amazing and come in the cutest containers! These are different and not your typical “commercial” fragrances. Since discovering perfume oils, I have ditched wearing my overpriced name brand perfumes and I am enjoying collecting all sorts of interesting scents! autumn perfume

Why do I choose perfume oils over commercial alcohol based perfumes?

  • It’s long-lasting
  • It’s cleaner, richer, truer scent. Not harsh, overbearing, or overpowering
  • It has a longer shelf life
  • It’s less likely to cause allergic reaction
  • non-flammable
  • Affordable

Your typical alcohol–based perfume comes on very strong because fragrance in alcohol evaporate faster than they would on their own. This gives the impression that the perfume is 10 or 15 times stronger than it actually is. So when you first apply your fragrance, the aroma may sometimes seem harsh and overwhelming. It’s really the alcohol in perfume that causes the scent to disappear in two or three hours after using it. The fragrance has evaporated along with the alcohol!

Not to mention it’s Overpriced and made with 80-97 percent alcohol. Commercial perfumes are not long-lasting, Harsh, overbearing,  as well as a short shelf-life due to alcohol evaporation. It also has a high probability of causing allergic reactions and many are highly flammable.

The Plié Wand: Painting your nails just got a whole lot better!

the plie wand

How many of you guys love painting your own nails? I personally prefer to do my own nails vs going to a nail salon, first off it’s less expensive, and second I just love collecting nail polish! I know for me, it can get a little tricky to get my nails looking perfect, especially with bright colors, and I always end up with one hand nicer than the other.

So I did a little research and teamed up with Julep to fill you guys in on this cool new tool! The Plié Wand by Julep gives you the right amount of grip so you have more control for better and easier application.

It can easily be attached to any julep nail polish, or any of your favorites. This tool sounds amazing, and I honestly think it will make life so much easier,  I have such a hard time holding those little nail polish caps, (that seem to be made for the hands of toddlers), this makes so much sense! It sounds like it will also save me weekly trips to the nail salon! I would love to give it a try!

The Plié Wand lauches today! I found this awesome video on the Julep blog that easily explains how to use the wand. What do you guys think?!

How to look good in a hurry

I recently got a call from my longtime friend, who I barely see anymore due to scheduling conflicts. She sent me a text out of the blue wanting to meet up, and I had about 15 minutes to get ready. I work from home, so most of the time, I’m in lounge wear! (one of the perks of working from home). I didn’t want to leave the house looking like I just dragged myself out of bed, but how do you make yourself decent in under 15 minutes? I’m not the high maintenance kind of girl, but I like to look presentable. I since came up with my 15 minutes or less, get ready tips!

Tip #1: Buy makeup that does more than one job.
Instead of foundation, use a BB cream or tinted moisturizer, they provide coverage and moisturize and offer sun protection.
Buy a mascara that curls and lengthens, you can then omit the eyelash curler. A cheek and lip stain comes in handy, you don’t need a brush to apply, just dab a little on your cheek and you’re out the door!

Tip #2: Use dry shampoo.
If your hair is not fresh from the shower, use a dry shampoo to avoid the greasy hair look. If hair is out of control that day, use a pretty elastic headband ( This is my go to “bad hair day” accessory).

Tip #3: Put on some lipstick
Go easy on eyeshadow, there’s no time! Leave your eyes neutral and got for a red lip! A bold lip can instantly make you look polished!

Tip #4: Accessorize!
There’s no time to pick the perfect outfit! Choose something classic and accessorize with a nice watch, statement jewelry, and don’t forget your sunglasses!

Tip #5: Have a “get ready quick” emergency kit.
Make your own “in a hurry” makeup bag.

  • Tinted moisturizer / BB cream
  • Mascara that curls and lengthens
  • A bold lipstick
  • Cheek and lip stain
  • Eye drops to brighten eyes
  • Breath mints
  • Nail polish remover and cotton balls (just in case your nails are less than perfect)
  • Elastic headband

Keep it on your vanity or makeup drawers, it will come in handy when you need to head out the door in a hurry!

The rules of foundation

the rules of foundation

  1. Start with cleansed hydrated skin:  Make sure to wash your skin before applying foundation, and always use a moisturizer.
  2. Exfoliate: Give your skin the perfect canvas for makeup. Exfoliating once a week removes dead skin and creates the perfect canvas for foundation.
  3. Let your moisturizer set: Give your facial moisturizer about 5 minutes to soak into your skin before applying any makeup.
  4. Compliment your skin type: Find a foundation that suits your skin. For dry skin types, use a hydrating formula. For sensitive skin, use a non-comenogenic fragrance free foundation, and oily skin should use water based formulas.
  5. Conceal: Apply concealer before your foundation to cover any imperfections.
  6. Choose the right shade: When picking out a color, make sure to do a swatch on your cheek and jawline in natural sunlight.
  7. Change with the season: As the seasons change, you should also be switching your foundation color. Opt for a darker shade during the summer months.
  8. Applying foundation: Add a small amount of foundation to the back of your hand. Using the tip of a foundation brush, lightly pat the foundation on your skin. Apply in small dots, on forehead, cheeks and chin. Work your way around your entire face and neck in circular motions.
  9. Finish with a translucent setting powder: This sheer powder will set your foundation and make it last all day.

Foundation Do’s and Don’ts

Do use foundation that matches your skin tone
Do apply foundation on your eyelids
Do Moisturize before applying foundation
Do apply concealer before foundation
Don’t cake your foundation onto your face. Apply in small dots.
Don’t rely on your foundation to “fix” your skin. Always take care and prep your skin for the perfect canvas.

Top Drugstore makeup dupes: Blushes

I searched high and low for the best makeup dupes around! I will be posting several series of dupes, starting with blushes. For the price of one “high-end” blush, you can get a handful of dupes that work beautifully if not better! Don’t be fooled by the price tags, you could just be paying for expensive packaging, the quality on these much more affordable makeup brands are just as good, and definitely worth the trip to your local drugstore.mac blush dupe benefit dandelion dupe

Glory Boon foundation has a new look!

Our liquid foundation has gotten a new look! I used to package them in pump dispensers, and although I loved them, I realized the pump would not fully dispense all the product.

These new bottles come with flip tops which makes it easier to dispense. You also get more product since there is no pump inserted into the bottle. Another great thing about these bottle is, you get to squeeze all the foundation, which in turn lets you get the most out of the product.

So far I love the new bottles, they have a nice natural feel to them. They are also recyclable, and reusable!

YLS Rouge Volupte Shine review

My First splurge of the year! The YLS Lipstick everyone is raving about! I couldn’t help but get it as I was browsing the isles in Sephora. The first thing I noticed was the beautiful packaging! It comes in a gold tube, and let’s face it, who doesn’t love gold?

I automatically felt very special as I opened the tube, it’s very fancy. The colors are really beautiful. I got the #16. Yup, they are named by numbers. Let’s just call it orangey peachy for now. It goes on very smooth and hydrates nicely. I wouldn’t wear these lipsticks on a regular basis, but more on special occasions.

Then there was the price tag. $34 big ones. I’m all about buying affordable products, so this was definitely a splurge. Would I buy another one? Maybe. Reason being is because I feel it’s a good quality product, and the packaging is amazing!

I’m not fond of products with huge ingredient list but nowadays it’s the norm. Didn’t find anything to hazardous in the ingredients, except for all the artificial colors…not loving that it has talc though.
